This course will briefly review the concepts of law, ethics, morals, professionalism, and codes of behavior set forth by the organizations involved in dental care in New York (ADA, NYSDA, ADHA, AADA). It will focus on case history and the areas that dentists and auxiliaries have struggled with in the past as well as a discussion about challenges and opportunities for the future of our professions. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions they may have wondered about for a long time, such as: “Is it ok to…?”, or “How can they get away with…?”, or “Why aren’t they getting in trouble for…?”
Learning Objectives:
- Know the differences between ethics, morals, and the law.
- Understand what resources are available to help you make ethical decisions when faced with everyday dilemmas.
- Recognize common pitfalls in which dentists and staff may find themselves.
- Strive to do better as a profession.
