Every dental practice needs to be familiar with current infection control guidance to provide a safe environment for patients and staff. This course will examine the latest guidance from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Centers for Disease Control (CDC), American Dental Association (ADA), and Association for Dental Safety (ADS) and discuss how these elements should be incorporated into dental practices. This course will discuss mandatory infection control requirements as well as best practices so ensure you are compliant with federal and state regulations.
Course Objectives:
- Identify Key Principles of Infection Prevention in the dental setting.
- Implement strategies to improve infection control programs in dental practices.
- Identify OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard requirements relevant to dental personnel.
- Understand effective sterilization and disinfection protocols.
- Recognize the importance of hand hygiene and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Matthew Roberts, MS, RDH, CHC, CDIPC, is a registered dental hygienist with over 10 years of clinical experience across diverse dental care settings. He holds a bachelor’s degree in public health and a master’s degree in education. Additionally, he is Certified in Dental Infection Prevention and Control (CDIPC) through the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) and has a Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) through the Compliance Certification Board (CCB). Matt is passionate about advancing public health and dental education. Currently, he serves as Compliance and Privacy Officer at the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine and as an adjunct clinical instructor at SUNY Erie’s School of Dental Hygiene.
