One of the more popular topics in dentistry is the treatment of peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis. Numerous treatment approaches exist to address these conditions, yet they often yield limited success. This presentation aims to provide attendees with comprehensive information on maintaining oral hygiene, starting from the initial implant placement, and continuing through to long-term care. Additionally, it will cover proper instrumentation, techniques, and various medications, highlighting those that may either contribute to or impede successful outcomes.
Course Objectives:
- Establish a home-care program customized to the individual needs of the patient.
- Reinforce the program through periodic recall visits based on personalized needs.
- Strictly adhere to the recall intervals to be certain the requirements of function, comfort and esthetics are being maintained.
- Recommend the patient make a lifetime commitment to the established program.
Thomas J. Kepic, DDS ’75, received his DDS from the University of Buffalo. He received his Certificate in Periodontics and Master of Science in Dentistry from Indiana University. Dr. Kepic taught at University of California San Francisco before coming to Upland, CA to begin his private practice. He practiced in the same location for over four decades. He is a visiting lecturer at 15 universities. He is past president for the California Society of Periodontists and was Region Leader in Periodontics for the Inland Empire for over 25 years. He is past president for the Western Society of Periodontology, the first ever, to serve two terms.
Dr. Kepic was a Trustee for the American Academy of Periodontology and served on multiple committees. He is currently Adjunct Clinical Professor at both the University of Pennsylvania and Indiana University. His greatest professional pride is being a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and serving as an Examiner for the Board including being Chairman of the Board.
His passion for periodontics includes understanding the Prognosis for a compromised tooth and the ability to save many teeth that would otherwise be lost.
