Your careful examination of the oral cavity may allow for early diagnosis and treatment indicative of an underlying systemic condition. You will be educated on many medical conditions and diseases that have oral side effects and complications associated with them such as xerostomia, candida infections, stomatitis, mucositis and burning mouth syndrome. Suffering from these conditions can interfere with nutrition, function, overall health and quality of life. Examination should include evaluation for mucosal changes, periodontal inflammation and bleeding, and general condition of the teeth. You will return to your practice ready to implement specific strategies in order to help improve the lives of your patients suffering from these conditions and recognize what they may be suffering from within the oral cavity window.
